HPE HDD 20TB 7.2K SAS 12Gb/s 3,5"

Data centers face relentless pressure to store more while controlling costs and maintaining reliability. The HPE 20TB 7.2K SAS 12Gb/s 3.5" LFF Midline Hard Drive (P54676-001) tackles this challenge head-on, delivering massive capacity in a proven enterprise form factor. Built for capacity-optimized workloads, it offers a cost-effective tier for archival, backup, and bulk storage without sacrificing the performance needed for sequential access patterns.

Who is it for

This drive is ideal for IT administrators and data center managers running HPE ProLiant servers or HPE storage systems who need to expand raw storage efficiently. It suits environments where high capacity per slot matters more than maximum IOPS—think cloud storage, media repositories, big data analytics, and long-term retention. If your infrastructure demands 24/7 operation with hot-swap convenience, this drive fits seamlessly into existing HPE ecosystems.

Main features

• 20TB raw capacity using Conventional Magnetic Recording (CMR) for predictable performance
• 7200 RPM spindle speed balanced for capacity and throughput
• 12Gb/s SAS interface doubles bandwidth over 6Gb/s for faster data transfers
• 3.5" Large Form Factor (LFF) with Smart Carrier for tool-less hot-swap in supported bays
• 512MB cache buffer accelerates repeated reads and writes
• 512e sector format ensures compatibility with modern operating systems and hypervisors
• Engineered for 24/7 operation with 2 million hours MTBF
• Low power draw: ~11W operating, ~7W idle reduces cooling and energy costs

Tips

For optimal performance, deploy this drive in RAID arrays with a suitable HPE Smart Array controller or HBA. Ensure your server or storage enclosure supports 12Gb/s SAS and 3.5" LFF bays. Since it uses 512e emulation, verify your operating system and applications are aligned for best efficiency. Consider using these drives for tiered storage—combine with SSDs for hot data and these HDDs for capacity tier. Always update firmware to the latest HPE revision for reliability and feature enhancements.
