HPE Mixed Use 480GB SATA 6Gb/s 2,5" Hot-Swap SSD so Smart Carrier P19947-H21

Server workloads that demand consistent performance under mixed read/write conditions can quickly overwhelm conventional storage, leading to latency spikes and degraded application responsiveness. The HPE Mixed Use 480GB SATA SSD directly addresses this challenge by delivering balanced, predictable I/O for virtualized environments, databases, and transactional applications. Engineered for HPE ProLiant Gen8 through Gen10 Plus servers, this drive combines enterprise-grade endurance with the simplicity of a hot-swap, tool-less Smart Carrier, ensuring minimal downtime during service or upgrades.

Who is it for

This SSD is built for IT administrators, data center operators, and system integrators who manage HPE ProLiant servers and need a reliable, cost-effective storage upgrade. It suits organizations running mixed workloads—such as web servers, collaboration platforms, and online transaction processing (OLTP)—where a balance of read and write performance is essential. The drive's 1 DWPD endurance rating makes it ideal for environments with moderate write intensity, while its SATA interface ensures compatibility across a broad range of server generations.

Main features

• 480 GB capacity in a 2.5-inch Small Form Factor (SFF) with HPE Smart Carrier for effortless hot-swap installation.
• SATA 6Gb/s interface with sequential read up to 530 MB/s and write up to 470 MB/s for rapid data access.
• Mixed Use (MU) endurance of 1 Drive Write Per Day (DWPD) over a 5-year period, backed by 3D TLC NAND.
• Random performance up to 65,000 IOPS read and 25,000 IOPS write (4KB blocks) for responsive applications.
• Digitally Signed Firmware (DSF) ensures only authentic HPE firmware runs on the drive, protecting against tampering.
• Enterprise-class reliability with 2,000,000 hours MTBF and enhanced power loss data protection.

Tips

To maximize the lifespan and performance of this SSD, ensure your server firmware and HPE Smart Array controller drivers are up to date. For mixed-use workloads, monitor write amplification and consider overprovisioning if your application demands sustained high write throughput. Always use the HPE Smart Carrier for proper airflow and hot-swap functionality; do not install the bare drive without the carrier. When replacing an existing drive, follow HPE's hot-plug procedures to avoid data loss.
