Kružidlo Staedtler 553 02

The Staedtler 553 02 bow compass is a precision drawing instrument manufactured in Germany for accurate circle and arc construction. It features a robust metal frame, a pencil holder for standard graphite pencils, and a finely adjustable hinge for smooth, repeatable settings. The compass is designed to provide consistent results in technical drawing, drafting, geometry exercises, and classroom use while maintaining ergonomic balance for extended work sessions.

Advantages

The compass combines a solid construction with precise adjustment mechanics to deliver stable and accurate circles. Its pencil holder accepts common drawing pencils, and the smooth hinge action reduces play for repeatable measurements. The ergonomic bow shape improves handling and control during detailed work, and the compact size makes it easy to store in a pencil case or drawing kit.

Suitable for

• Technical drawing and drafting
• Architectural sketches and layouts
• Engineering diagrams and measurements
• School geometry classes and student use
• Hobby drawing and model-making

Key specifications

• Material: metal frame with metal hinge and pencil holder
• Type: bow compass with pencil/clamping holder
• Adjustment: fine screw or hinge mechanism for precise radius setting
• Compatibility: fits standard graphite drawing pencils
• Design: ergonomic bow shape for comfortable handling
• Origin: manufactured in Germany

How to use

Insert a sharpened graphite pencil into the pencil holder and tighten the clamp to secure it. Position the needle point at the intended center, apply gentle downward pressure, and rotate the compass around the pivot to draw a circle or arc. Use the fine adjustment hinge to set the desired radius accurately; recheck the pencil alignment and point sharpness for clean lines. For measuring or transferring distances, lock the hinge at the required span and compare against a ruler or drawing scale.

Recommendations

Keep the needle point capped or covered when not in use to protect the tip and avoid accidental damage. Store the compass in a protective case or compartment to prevent bending of the frame. For best results, use well-sharpened pencils and periodically check the hinge tension to maintain precise operation.
