HP SPS-45W 744892-001 Smart RC is a 45W power adapter designed for HP portable devices. It supplies regulated power for charging and operation, integrating Smart RC functionality to negotiate compatibility and manage power delivery. The adapter is compact and lightweight, intended as a replacement for an original adapter or as a spare unit for home, office, or travel use.

Advantages

The adapter delivers a stable 45W output with built-in communication to compatible HP systems, reducing the risk of under- or over-powering the connected device. Its compact form factor and modest weight make it easy to carry in a laptop bag. The Smart RC feature helps the host device identify the adapter and apply appropriate charging profiles and power management behavior. The design includes standard safety protections to limit short-circuit, overcurrent, and overvoltage conditions.

Suitable for

• Replacing a lost or damaged HP laptop power adapter
• Keeping an extra adapter at the office or in a travel bag
• Charging and powering compatible HP portable devices with a 45W requirement

Key specifications

• Output power: 45 watts
• Compatibility: designed for HP portable systems supporting Smart RC communication
• Form factor: compact external AC adapter
• Input: universal AC input for mains operation
• Protections: built-in overcurrent, overvoltage and short-circuit protection
• Cable: attached or detachable DC output cable (model-dependent)

How to use

Connect the adapter to an appropriate AC mains outlet using the supplied AC lead, then plug the DC connector into the power inlet of the HP portable device. Ensure the connector is fully seated and that the device accepts the adapter; the Smart RC functionality should permit the host system to detect the adapter and apply correct charging logic. If the device does not power on or charge, verify the mains outlet, cable connections and the adapter compatibility with the specific HP model before further troubleshooting.

Recommendations

Use the adapter indoors and avoid exposure to moisture, extreme temperatures or direct sunlight. Use only on compatible HP devices and replace frayed or damaged cables promptly. For extended battery charging sessions, place the laptop on a hard, flat surface for adequate ventilation. If uncertain about compatibility with a specific device model, consult the device documentation or HP support.
