For best performance, insert fresh alkaline or fully charged NiMH batteries and set both radios to the same channel and CTCSS/DCS code. In urban or wooded areas, expect reduced range; hold the radio vertically and avoid covering the antenna. Use the VOX function with a compatible headset for hands-free operation while cycling or working. Keep the keypad locked when carrying the radio to avoid accidental changes.
