Storage server Rack 2U SYNOLOGY DP7200 — EPYC 7272 2,9 GHz, 32 GB RAM, 123,84 TB (HDD+SSD), 12 diskov

The Synology ActiveProtect appliance DP7200 is a 2U rack storage server designed for small and medium businesses and data centres. It is pre-configured with ActiveProtect Manager, a backup‑focused operating environment that enables centralized backup, restore, deduplication, replication and management of multiple workloads. The DP7200 integrates on‑premises and remote workloads into clusters for single‑pane management and adds immutability, air‑gapped backups and access controls to protect data from ransomware and other threats.

Advantages

DP7200 combines a compact 2U rack form factor with enterprise‑grade CPU performance from the AMD EPYC 7272 (2.9 GHz) platform and 32 GB of RAM. It ships with 12 installed drives (HDD+SSD) providing a total installed capacity of 123.84 TB, supports RAID, and includes high‑speed Ethernet connectivity for reliable backup and fast data transfer. The system is built for centralized management, scalable expansion and efficient storage use through deduplication and optimized backup workflows.

Suitable for

• Centralized backup server for company headquarters
• Data protection for distributed sites and cluster‑based management
• Virtualization hosts and centralized file services
• Small and medium business storage for backup and archive

When it may not be suitable

The DP7200 is intended as a rack‑mounted backup and storage appliance; it may not be suitable for environments that require a tower workstation or very small edge appliances. Organizations with extremely low capacity needs or those that require a fully passive, maintenance‑free archival device may find the feature set and 2U form factor unnecessarily large.

Key specifications

How to use

Mount the DP7200 in a standard 19‑inch equipment rack and connect power and network interfaces. Use the pre‑installed ActiveProtect Manager to discover and add workloads from local and remote sites, configure backup policies, set up deduplication and replication, and enable immutability and air‑gapped protection as required. Monitor job status and storage utilization via the central management console and adjust retention, replication targets and capacity planning through the appliance interface.

What to consider before purchase

• Ensure a compatible 2U rack space and sufficient rack power and cooling.
• Plan network bandwidth for backup windows and replication (10Gb recommended for large environments).
• Confirm that 123.84 TB installed capacity and the mix of HDD+SSD meet your retention and performance requirements.
• Check compatibility with existing backup policies and target workloads for deduplication and replication.

Recommendations

Deploy the DP7200 as a central management and backup appliance for multiple sites, combine HDD for capacity and SSD for performance tiers, enable RAID and deduplication for storage efficiency, and schedule replication to an offsite cluster to maintain air‑gapped and immutable backups for ransomware resilience.
