Why choose it

The DS423 balances performance and simplicity. Its quad-core CPU handles file transfers, photo indexing, and multi-user access without breaking a sweat, while 2GB of RAM is sufficient for core NAS duties. The included HAT3310-16T drives are purpose-built for Synology systems, offering 7200 RPM speed, 512MB cache, and enhanced reliability. With SHR, you can mix drive sizes and still protect against a single drive failure, making storage expansion straightforward.

Ideal use cases

• Central file storage and sharing for small workgroups
• Automated backup target for PCs, Macs, and servers
• Private cloud for remote access and file sync
• Media library for streaming to TVs and mobile devices
• Surveillance station for IP camera recording

Good to know

This bundle includes four Synology HAT3310-16T hard drives, pre-tested for compatibility and covered by Synology's drive warranty. The NAS supports hot-swappable drive trays for easy maintenance, and its tool-less design speeds up installation. Power consumption is modest, and the system can be scheduled to power on/off to save energy. For advanced features like Docker containers or virtual machines, consider a Plus-series model with more memory.
