The Deuter Freescape Lite 26 L is a frameless ski mountaineering backpack designed for day trips and light-to-medium loads. It combines a lightweight construction with comfortable back padding and ventilated 3D mesh to keep carrying comfort high while minimising weight. External, variable attachment straps secure skis, a snowboard or crampons, while a separate reinforced safety compartment holds a probe and shovel for immediate access in emergencies. The pack is treated with a durable water-repellent finish and is free from PFAS.

Advantages

The pack delivers a close-to-body fit with snug, lightweight hip fins and adjustable load straps that stabilise the load during movement. A top loading opening with quick side zipper access helps reach equipment fast without removing the whole pack. Integrated features such as an adjustable sternum strap with signal whistle, removable helmet net, smartphone pocket and fleece-lined goggle pocket add practical convenience for alpine use.

Suitable for

When it may not be suitable

This frameless 26 L pack is optimised for single-day outings and light to medium loads; it is not intended for multi-day expeditions or carrying heavy loads over long distances. Users needing a large-volume pack with a full suspension frame for heavy loads should consider a different model.

How to use

Load the pack through the top opening and use the side zipper for quick access to frequently needed items. Secure skis or snowboard with the A-frame or diagonal fastening straps and attach ice axes to the dedicated holders. Place probe and shovel in the reinforced safety compartment for immediate availability. Adjust the hip fins, sternum strap and load adjustment straps to achieve a close, stable fit that transfers weight to the hips for greater comfort during ascents and descents.

What to consider before purchase

Recommendations

For optimal comfort and safety, carry heavy items low and close to the back, distribute weight evenly, and keep the probe and shovel in the reinforced compartment for quick access. Regularly check attachment straps and zippers before heading into alpine terrain.
